Happy Honey Extraction Day!

It really is like a holiday around here.  Anyone that missed the fireworks yesterday would have appreciated the explosion of angry bees that came from the hive this morning.  Granted, I expected it.  One should never open a hive on a cloudy, rainy day.  Ever.  The bees don’t like it, and they will convince you that you don’t like it either.

Anyway, everyone survived, the bees are happily cleaning up the extracting equipment outside, and we have roughly 60 pounds of honey to bottle in the coming week.

As a side note, we didn’t take all the honey from the hives.  It gets too dry around here in the late summer to leave them with nothing, and that wouldn’t be fair to the hardworking ladies.

Hello world!

Here we go again!  I had a site for the farm, but seem to be having some technical difficulties at the moment.  This may become the new farm site, or it may just turn into a blog, it’s up in the air right now.  There had been some…let’s call it encouragement…from some people (really just one) to start writing about the happenings on the farm on a regular basis.  The technical problems with the old site just might be the push I needed to start in that direction.
